Inside the Frame: April 28
Building community, battling imposter syndrome, and celebrating the wins!
Hi friends,
First off, sorry for not sending out a newsletter last week! Life got very busy over here. I’ve been planning a bunch of events (one of which just happened this past Saturday).
On top of that, I’ve been in the trenches battling some good old imposter syndrome, trying to figure out how to present my work. I’m feeling pulled between fashion and fine art, and navigating how to showcase both sides online has been a journey, to say the least. I’m also trying to create spaces for people to connect, to build real community...but it’s not always easy getting people engaged at the start. It can feel discouraging, like shouting into the void and wondering if anyone’s listening.
I’m also balancing two amazing programs — WaterFire Accelerate and DesignxRI — which have been a huge blessing, but let’s be real...with all I have going on, a girl is tired. And I’ve been finding it hard to prioritize downtime and being off the grid.
Still, we persevere. We keep going.
Entrepreneurship is often called a lonely road, and I definitely feel that right now. But my hope is to build a real community along the way. A place where creativity, growth, and support live side by side. Thanks for being here with me. 🖤
More updates soon. Big things ahead.
With love,
~ Caterina
What’s been going on…
This past Saturday, I hosted The Headshot Social at Waterfire Arts Center! Though the turnout was small, I appreciated each and every person who came to talk and grab a headshot. But another upcoming event I have with Contatto Arts is on May 10 is Steeped in Thought: Mental Health and the Artist’s Mind. Make sure to check it out! This event is limited to 25 people.
Sunday, I had a super fun photoshoot with a local R&B and Jazz singer, Whitney Sanchez, for her upcoming EP! It won’t be released until June/July, but trust this song is beautiful! And the photos came out so great after being whipped by sand and wind at Napatree Beach. You can check out my Instagram and TikTok for some behind-the-scenes. Photos won’t be shared until much later!
UPDATE: The submission deadline for the Community Photography Critique in Providence for May 18th has been extended! You now have until May 2nd to submit! It will be guided by curator and photographer Emily Belz and Photographer Jonathan Pitts-Wiley! You can apply here: (APPLICATION). There is a $10 submission fee - Some waivers available to BIPOC & Queer photographers so DM Contatto Arts on Instagram to inquire!

Carrie Mae Weems: The Heart of the Matter
Finally sharing a photo book for you all! Carrie Mae Weems is one of my favorite photographers and an inspiration to many. I’ve had the honor to hear her speak a few times. This comprehensive monograph presents her pivotal works alongside her spiritual and philosophical journeys.
